Its sapwood is grayish yellow brown or light yellow brown, which is significantly different from its heartwood. Its heartwood is reddish brown or yellowish brown, often with black stripes, and has distinct growth rings; its tube holes are between visible and obvious to the naked eye, and are between few and slightly few in numbers.?Its axial thin-walled tissue is visible to the naked eye, mainly in the shape of a strip or confluent parenchyma. Its color is bright; its texture is exquisite; its wood quality is fine and dense; and its aroma is seductive.?Its flowering period is from April to June, and its fruit ripening period is from October to December.

The place of origin of Hainan scented rosewood is in the low altitude plain and hilly areas of Jianfeng Ridge, Diaoluo Mountain, Hainan Island, China. It has been introduced to Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other provinces.?The flowers of the plants with lush growth have fewer fruits, while flowers of the plants with weaker growth have more fruits; the flowers on Yin branches have fewer fruits, while the flowers on Yang branches have more fruits.?Cuttage propagation is the main method for raising seedlings.
